Plot

Our story begins in the era of the Tokugawa Shogunate, starting with the first Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu. By the time Ieyasu had risen to power to found the start of the Tokugawa Shogunate, new powers had begun arising in Japan as well. The discovery of Mages was the start. Mages were beings who could channel magic, making the impossible possible in many cases. The mages were a threat, in the eyes of Ieyasu. They controlled powers no man should control. And so, a deal was made. The mages would serve Ieyasu, in exchange for protection from the many who wanted to capture or kill them. There were 13 mages, each with different powers. First was the elemental mages. Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Light, and Shadow. These 6 could control anything related to their elements, and are the patrons and ancestors of all mages who use elemental magic. The next were the animal mages. Each had control over different animals, able to take the form of or control an animal at will. The 3 were Spider, Bear, and Tiger. Then were the 4, each who displayed vastly different and superior magic to the other 9.

Chiyo , the black mage, had power over life and death itself. She was strong, and clever, perhaps the trickiest of the 13 mages. She was feared, and yet loved, for she was a benevolent woman for the most part. When she was angry, entire villages fell to her wrath, and when she was happy, the land prospered.

Takumi, the mage of creation, could create beings from magic itself. He possessed a godlike power, and was well loved by the people. He was kind, and strong as all of the mages were, but most importantly: he created a race known as the golems. The golems had bodies seemingly made of stone or clay, but were animated, able to walk and talk and feel pain. The golems were created to work under dangerous conditions, and the people felt much safer with the protection of Takumi.

Ren-Yuuki, the mage of peace and luck. He was the most loved of the 4, and yet the least powerful of the 4. He could grant people luck, or take it away. He was always lucky himself, and because of this survived many things the others of the 4 would not. He spent his life travelling and bringing luck to those in need of something good in their lives.

Daishin was the mage of strength. He was unnaturally strong, able to crush boulders with a single blow of his fist. He was the most feared of the 4, as well as the 13 mages in general. He was not kind, nor benevolent, and in fact caused a great deal of suffering for the people. His magic was so strong, people felt weighed down by his very presence.

Eventually, Daishin grew bored of serving Ieyasu. He didn't want this, any of it. He wanted freedom, and he wanted power.  He asked to be relieved from service, but Ieyasu rejected it, causing Daishin to go mad. He laid waste to every village he came across, causing so much death the remaining 12 of the 13 mages were sent to stop him. The battle was fierce, and in the end, the 13 killed each other. Their blood soaked into the earth, and from this, the new mages came into being. They were not as strong as their creators, but were respected by the people as the new race of mages.

And thus, mages came into being.

The second change came with the death of Ieyasu. The mages were no longer as respected or loved, and many were exiled. They plotted their revenge, waiting for the right moment. For hundreds of years, they were in hiding, recruiting pepeople to their cause and gathering powerful objects. Japan remained as it always had,  as did the rest of the world. Nothing changed from the beginning of the Tokugawa Shogunate, And the world remained stuck in a period with very little advancement. War broke out, and all of Japan lived in fear of the conflict between the mages and the rest of the country.

Now, the war still remains, and Japan is on the verge of collapse. Will you be the one to save Japan, or will the country crumble?

Classes

Every character can be classified in some way. Classes serve as generalized distinctions of who your character is, and what they are capable of. What they specialize in, essentially. The classes are vastly different, each with their own sub-classes and abilities. Depending on which class you choose, you could either be limiting or helping your character grow. The choice is yours.
